  42. I'm still using msk3.13 and first noticed this problem with the
  43. advent of 3.13. Assuming that this is a carryover from 3.13 to
  44. 3.14 there seems to be a pretty consistent behavior pattern on my
  45. PC that I hope might provide clues as to what is going on here.

  47. My configuration is a Gateway 2000 486/33C with and external USR
  48. Sportster 14.4 modem.  What I see is that the port check never
  49. fails if
  50.  
  51. 1. The modem is powered up BEFORE the system unit is booted
  52.  
  53. 2. I don't power up the modem until AFTER I launch Kermit
  54.  
  55. Conversely the port check fails more often than not if I power up
  56. the modem after I boot the system unit but before I launch
  57. Kermit.
